India defeated Pakistan by five wickets in a nail-biting final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium to retain the Asia Cup.
It was the third encounter between the rivals at the event, and India won again on Sunday, giving them their eighth trophy.
Pakistan, forced to bat first, began brilliantly, with Sahibzada Farhan (57) and Fakhar Zaman (46) putting on an outstanding opening stand of 84.
They rallied to 113-1 with 44 balls remaining in the innings, but the collapse that followed was dramatic and crucial to the outcome.
India claimed the remaining nine wickets for only 33 runs, thanks to left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav (4-30) and some wayward strokes, as a shellshocked Pakistan were swept out for 146 with five deliveries remaining in their innings.
India started badly in their reply, losing three wickets in the first three overs, giving Pakistan hope.
Tilak Varma, however, cooled things down with a magnificent unbroken 69, while Shivam Dube (33) and Sanju Samson (24) offered much-needed support as they triumphed with only two balls remaining.
Shubman Gill, the Test captain, said afterwards: “It’s been fantastic to remain unblemished in the competition. When things got rough, we realized we had to go as far as possible.”
India’s victory solidified their position as Asia’s top team, with a trophy record of nine in the competition, followed by Sri Lanka on six and Pakistan with two.
